In 1984, the year private television was launched, Jochen Kröhne began his media career with a degree in business administration. His profession became the development of a total of seven television stations and other media projects.

As program director of the TV music channel musicbox, the entertainment channel Tele 5, and the pay-TV channel Premiere, his priorities were program structures, the development of innovative formats, talent scouting, marketing, and promotion. He founded and managed the entertainment channel TM3, The History Channel Germany, the new edition of the movie channel Tele 5, and Motorvision TV as managing director. In addition to programming, his focus was increasingly on strategic management, advertising sales, production, licensing, marketing/press, and building technical reach.

At 27, he was the youngest program director in Germany, and at 29, he was responsible for transforming the niche channel musicbox into the full-service channel Tele 5, triggered by Silvio Berlusconi's first entry into the German television market. At the age of 35, he was responsible for many innovative formats at the national channel Premiere with his three partners Canal Plus, the Kirch Group, and Bertelsmann. In his early 40s, under shareholder Rupert Murdoch, he managed the transformation of the women's channel TM3 into the channel that secured the exclusive German TV rights for the UEFA Champions League in the 1999/2000 season. During his time at Motorvision TV, he launched an English-language version of the channel in Dubai for the Arab platform OSN. As co-managing director of Germany's Gold, he developed the first streaming platform (before Netflix and Amazon Prime) for ARD, ZDF, and German TV producers around 2010, but it was stopped by the Federal Cartel Office. Jochen Kröhne was also a long-standing member of the board of the German Television Association and spokesperson for digital pay-TV channels in Germany from 2007 to 2012.

In 2000, Jochen Kröhne founded GET ON AIR GmbH, a consulting and management company specializing in media startups for clients such as the Tele München Group, AETN International, Hearst Corporation, Splendid Medien AG, Senator Entertainment, Deutsche Fußball Liga, Mainstream Media, Bauer Media Group, Hubert Burda Media, various cable network operators, UNESCO, and others.
